Therapy
Physical, occupational and speech therapy can be provided in the home by fully licensed therapists. Therapies are used as needed to help patients improve in performing routine daily activities and enjoy a higher quality of life.
The most common patient problems that require physical therapy are cardiac, stroke, hip fracture or surgery, knee and hip replacement, burns, arthritis, amputation, spinal cord injuries, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and certain postoperative conditions. Occupational therapists primarily help patients regain skills needed for activities of daily living (ADL), such as bathing, grooming, dressing, cooking, eating, getting around and using their hands. Speech therapists help patients learn new ways to speak after surgery on the larynx (voice box) or tongue, improve understanding of other people's speech, regain speech after a stroke or other brain injury and overcome swallowing disorders.
